Fill line 1 of 4 · Dinner

Fridge → a week of dinners

For the moment you open the fridge and stare at it like it owes you an answer. Snap a photo, paste the prompt, get five weeknight dinners and only the groceries you're missing.

Copy + paste

Here's what's in my fridge and pantry: [list it, or attach a photo of your open fridge]. Plan 5 weeknight dinners for [2 adults and a toddler]. Each one should take 30 minutes or less, use what I already have first, and be one-pan if possible. Avoid: [allergies or foods your kids won't eat]. Then give me a short grocery list of only what's missing, grouped by store section.

Swap the [brackets] for your details.

What you might get back (example)
  • Mon: Sheet-pan chicken + sweet potatoes (25 min)
  • Tue: Cheesy egg fried rice (20 min)
  • Wed: Black bean quesadillas (15 min)
  • Grocery list: spinach, 2 sweet potatoes, tortillas

Fill line 2 of 4 · Flyer

Daycare flyer → calendar events

The minute a flyer comes home, before it disappears into the diaper bag forever. A photo becomes a clean list of dates, times and what to bring, with anything unclear flagged instead of guessed.

Prompt preview

I'm attaching a photo of a daycare or school flyer. Pull out every event with its date, start and end time, and anything we need to bring or do. List them as calendar events…

What you might get back (example)
  • Picture Day / Tue, Nov 3 / 9:00 AM / Order forms due Mon
  • Pajama Day / Fri, Nov 6 / All day / Socks with grips
  • Flagged: Family Picnic, Sat, Nov 14. No time listed.

Fill line 3 of 4 · Brain dump

3am brain dump → a sorted to-do list

Baby's finally asleep and your brain decides now is the time to list everything. Tap the microphone, ramble, and get back a calm list: today, this week, can wait, and what your partner could take.

Prompt preview

I'm going to brain-dump everything on my mind. It'll be messy. Turn it into a calm to-do list grouped into: Today, This week, Can wait, and Things my partner could take…

What you might get back (example)
  • Today: Call daycare about Friday pickup
  • This week: Pay electric bill (due the 18th)
  • Partner could take: Book the oil change

Fill line 4 of 4 · Budget

Payday → a plan for the next paycheck

For the week daycare, diapers and the electric bill all land at once. Round numbers in, a simple due-date table out, with anything that doesn't fit flagged. No account numbers, ever.

Prompt preview

Help me plan my next paycheck using round numbers. My paycheck is about $[amount], paid on [date]. Bills due before then: [bill – amount – due date]…

What you might get back (example)
  • Nov 6 · Paycheck in · +$2,400
  • Nov 9 · Daycare (2 weeks) · $450
  • Flag: about $15 left until Nov 20 (made-up numbers)

Copy-paste prompts

  1. Fridge → a week of dinners
  2. Daycare flyer → calendar events
  3. 3am brain dump → sorted to-do list
  4. Baby log → questions for your pediatrician (it organizes notes, never diagnoses)
  5. A plan for the next paycheck

Each one comes with an example of what you might get back.

A 5-minute setup

Pick any free AI app (ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini, Claude or similar), lock your account, and find the three buttons you'll actually use.

A privacy checklist

The three settings I check before telling any AI about my family, plus a short list of things to never paste.

A family profile template

Type it once (ages, not names or birthdays) so “plan this week” already knows who it's planning for.

Fix-it phrases

“Shorter, please.” “Make it easier, I have 15 minutes.” Little replies that rescue a so-so answer.

About

Built by an RN dad who works 16-hour shifts.

My shifts at the hospital run sixteen hours and end around midnight. Then the second shift starts at home, with a one-year-old and a brain that won't switch off.

Somewhere in there I started using AI for the small stuff: what's for dinner, which day is pajama day, the list of things I'd otherwise forget by morning. It didn't fix parenting (nothing does). It gave me back a few minutes and a little headspace.

RN Dad Shortcuts is where I share those setups. Simple, copy-paste, no tech skills needed. No face, no hype, and no medical advice. Just shortcuts.

FAQ

Short answers, because you're tired.

Is it free?

Yes. The Starter Kit is free. It arrives by email, and you can unsubscribe any time.

Do I need tech skills?

No. If you can send a text, you can do this. The kit walks you through a 5-minute setup in any free AI app. Then it's copy, paste, and swap in your details.

Is this medical advice?

No. I'm a nurse, but nothing here is medical advice. These are setups for the logistics of family life: meals, calendars, lists and budgets. Health questions go to your pediatrician.

Which AI app do I need?

Any free assistant works: ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini, Claude or similar. Pick one. You can switch later.

What about my family's privacy?

It comes first. The kit covers three settings to check and a never-paste list: full names with birthdates, ID and account numbers, addresses, and photos of your kids.
